FORTIFIED Evaluations

FORTIFIED Evaluations

A FORTIFIED evaluation is a formal inspection and documentation process conducted to ensure that a home or building meets the standards of the FORTIFIED Home™ program developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). A Fortified Roof is a critical component of the FORTIFIED Home™ program, which aims to make homes more resistant to damage from hurricanes, high winds, hail, and severe storms. Key elements include: Sealed Roof Deck: Prevents water from entering the home if the shingles are blown off by sealing the joints between the roof deck panels. Enhanced Roof Attachment: Uses ring-shank nails and tighter spacing to better secure the roof deck to the home's frame. Improved Edge Protection: Stronger edge flashing and drip edges help keep the roof covering in place. Wind-Resistant Roof Covering: Uses shingles or other materials rated for higher wind resistance. Proper Flashing Installation: Helps prevent water intrusion at roof joints and transitions. These upgrades can significantly reduce the risk of interior water damage and structural failure in high-wind events. Some insurance companies even offer premium discounts for homes with a certified Fortified Roof.
